“Rebuilding” – Injured Indian Pacer Shares NCA Update After Champions Trophy Blow

On Thursday, February 13, Indian cricketer Jasprit Bumrah shared a photo from the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru on social media. The 31-year-old pacer has been out of action due to a lower back injury sustained during the final Test of the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

Despite being in the recovery phase, Bumrah was initially included in India‘s provisional squad for the 2025 Champions Trophy. However, on February 11, the BCCI officially announced his withdrawal from the tournament, naming Harshit Rana as his replacement.

The BCCI said:

“Fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has been ruled out of the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy due to a lower back injury. The Men’s Selection Committee has named Harshit Rana as Bumrah’s replacement.”

While continuing his recovery, the star pacer shared a picture of himself on Instagram on Thursday, captioning it:

“Some Things Aren’t in Your Hands”- Gautam Gambhir on Bumrah’s Champions Trophy Exit

Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir spoke about Jasprit Bumrah’s exclusion from the 2025 Champions Trophy due to injury. During a press conference on February 12, following India’s 3-0 ODI series whitewash against England, he addressed Bumrah’s absence, stating (as quoted by NDTV):

“Obviously, he has been ruled out. But all the details, I can’t give you because it’s up to the medical team to talk about that how long is he going to be out for and stuff because it’s the medical team that decides at NCA.”

The 43-year-old noted that Bumrah’s absence opens doors for Harshit Rana and Arshdeep Singh while praising Mohammed Shami’s return as a positive boost. Gambhir stated:

“Obviously, we wanted him desperately. We know that what he can do, he’s a world-class player. But then again, some things are not in your hands. So it’s an opportunity for some of the young guys, like Harshit Rana and Arshdeep Singh, to put their hands up and do something for the country.”
