India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal is set to return to domestic cricket, representing Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy 2024-25 semifinal, according to ‘Mid-Day’. Initially named in India’s preliminary squad for the 2025 Champions Trophy, Jaiswal was dropped from the final squad in a last-minute decision.
Now designated as a non-traveling reserve, he will only join the team in Dubai if required. As a result, he will be available for Mumbai’s semifinal clash against Vidarbha, scheduled to begin on Monday, February 17, in Nagpur.
As per the report, Mumbai chief selector Sanjay Patil stated that the squad that defeated Haryana in the quarterfinal has been retained without any changes, with Yashasvi Jaiswal being the only new addition.
“The inclusion of Yashasvi for this crucial game will be beneficial and will boost the Mumbai team’s morale,” Sanjay Patil said (via Mid-Day).
Mumbai defeat Haryana by 152 runs to reach Ranji Trophy 2024-25 semifinals
Mumbai secured a dominant 152-run victory over Haryana in the third quarterfinal of the Ranji Trophy 2024-25 at Eden Gardens, booking their place in the semifinals. Batting first, Mumbai posted 315 in the first innings, powered by crucial knocks from Shams Mulani (91) and Tanush Kotian (97).
In response, Haryana managed 301, with Shardul Thakur leading Mumbai’s bowling attack with six wickets, while Mulani and Kotian picked up two each, giving Mumbai a narrow first-innings lead.
In the second innings, captain Ajinkya Rahane anchored the innings brilliantly with a century (108), supported by key contributions from Suryakumar Yadav (70), Siddesh Lad (43), and Shivam Dube (48), as Mumbai set a challenging target of 354.
Royston Dias starred with a five-wicket haul, while Shardul Thakur (3) and Tanush Kotian (2) played their part in dismissing Haryana for 201, sealing a comprehensive win for Mumbai and a place in the semifinals.
