Rishabh Pant continued his impressive journey in Test cricket by climbing to sixth place in the ICC Test Rankings. His performance in the first Test against England, where he became only the second wicketkeeper in history to hit two centuries in a single match, earned him a career-best rating of 801.
With this, he is now only 88 points behind Joe Root, the top-ranked batter. This also marks a familiar return for Pant, who had previously reached fifth place in 2022. Among Indian batters, Yashasvi Jaiswal maintained his fourth position and continues to be the highest-ranked Indian. However, India’s Test captain Shubman Gill dropped to the 21st spot, moving down by one position.
Top Batters and Bowlers Continue to Impress
Joe Root held his No.1 rank with scores of 28 and an unbeaten 53 in the Headingley Test, maintaining a narrow lead over second-ranked Harry Brook, who is 15 points behind. England’s Ben Duckett also made a mark by jumping to eighth place, the best of his career, after a brilliant 149 in the second innings at Leeds.
On the bowling front, India’s Jasprit Bumrah continued to dominate the rankings. He has now reached 907 rating points after taking five wickets in the match against England. South Africa’s Kagiso Rabada and Australia’s Pat Cummins kept their second and third spots, while Josh Hazlewood climbed to fourth, pushing Pakistan’s Noman Ali down a place.
Jadeja Still Leading All-Rounders
Despite a low-key performance in the recent Test, India’s Ravindra Jadeja remained the top-ranked all-rounder in the ICC Test Rankings. His consistency and previous performances have kept him ahead in this category.
The Indian team continues to show a strong presence across the rankings with players like Pant, Jaiswal, Bumrah, and Jadeja performing consistently at the international level.
This balanced mix of batting, bowling, and all-round contributions shows India’s depth in Test cricket and their ability to challenge top teams globally. As the series against England continues, all eyes will be on these players to further climb the rankings and strengthen India’s position in the global Test arena.
