[WATCH]- Chris Woakes Dismisses KL Rahul With A Stunner On Day 1 Of 2nd ENG vs IND Test 2025

India opener KL Rahul was dismissed for a low score on Day 1 of the second Test against England after India were asked to bat first. Despite scoring a century in the second innings of the first Test at Leeds, Rahul couldn’t carry that form into Birmingham.

Chris Woakes bowled a back-of-a-length delivery outside off stump, which KL Rahul attempted to defend from the back foot. However, he played it too late, and the ball struck the toe of his bat before rolling back onto the stumps. Woakes claimed England’s first breakthrough as Rahul walked back after managing just 2 runs from 26 deliveries.

England captain Ben Stokes won the toss and opted to bowl first in the second Test of the five-match series at Edgbaston, Birmingham.

Team India Announce Three Key Changes In Playing XI

India skipper Shubman Gill confirmed that the team made three changes to their playing XI. Jasprit Bumrah was rested to manage his workload, with Akash Deep taking his place. Washington Sundar and Nitish Kumar Reddy were also brought in for the Edgbaston Test, replacing Sai Sudharsan, who debuted in the last match, and Shardul Thakur.

Speaking at the toss ahead of the match, Gill explained the changes (as quoted by Cricbuzz):

“Three changes – Reddy, Washi and Akash Deep come in. No Bumrah. Just to manage his workload. We did get a good break and this is an important match for us. But the third Test being at Lord’s, we think there’ll be more in that pitch so we’ll use him there.”

Further commenting on the decision to leave out Kuldeep Yadav and include Washington Sundar in the playing XI, the 25-year-old stated:

“We were tempted to play Kuldeep but looking at the last match, our lower order didn’t do well, so decided to add some depth to the batting.”
