‘One Minute Taken By You’, Rishabh Pant Instructs Umpire To Avoid Getting Fined For Slow Over Rate

Rishabh Pant

Rishabh Pant is a typical wicket-keeper who doesn’t hesitate in saying his witty one-liners from behind the stumps during the match. Yesterday the Delhi Capitals skipper had fun with Sundaram Ravi when he stopped Ravichandran Ashwin from bowling as he wanted to count the fielders. Pant quickly from behind the stumps reminded the umpire that he took one minute and not him so he should not be penalised in case of a slow over-rate.

In the 7th over when Ashwin was about to deliver the ball umpire, Ravi wanted to check the fielders standing inside the 30-yard circle on the leg side. In the altered playing conditions, according to Cricbuzz, the BCCI announced that the 20th over must be completed in 90 minutes.

Before this IPL season, the last over of an innings was to start by the 90th minute. The CSK captain, MS Dhoni has already been fined Rs 12 lakhs for maintaining a slow over-rate against Delhi and Pant clearly did not want to receive a fine after the match. He was at his best from behind the stumps and hilariously said, “That’s 1 minute being taken by you, umpire”.

Meanwhile, talking about the match skipper Pant was disappointed that his side couldn’t finish the job well with the ball against Rajasthan Royals and lost the match in the last over. The Delhi Capitals bowlers failed to execute yorkers in the death overs as David Miller and later Chris Morris took their side home in an exciting finish. Pant after the loss admitted their bowling could have been better towards the end but is hopeful for an improved show in the upcoming matches of IPL 2021.
