During an IPL 2025 match in Bengaluru, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) batter Devdutt Padikkal suffered an unexpected setback when a delivery from Chennai Super Kings (CSK) pacer Sam Curran struck his wrist, causing his performance tracking watch to break.

The Moment That Broke the Watch

During the 14th over, Sam Curran, the left-arm English pacer, unleashed a slower short ball, using his signature deception to catch Devdutt Padikkal off guard. As Padikkal attempted a pull shot, he completely misjudged the pace, and instead of connecting with the bat, the ball smashed into his wrist. The impact was so intense that his performance tracking watch flew off, soaring past the stumps, leaving fans and commentators stunned—a sight rarely witnessed on a cricket field.

What Kind of Watch Was It?

Padikkal’s watch wasn’t just a fashion accessory—it was a high-tech performance tracker designed to monitor recovery, sleep patterns, heart rate, and physical exertion. Modern cricketers use these advanced wearables to optimize their fitness levels, while teams rely on the data to fine-tune workloads and rest cycles, ensuring players perform at their peak.

After the blow, Padikkal was clearly in discomfort. Though he continued to bat for a couple more overs, the incident seemed to affect his timing and confidence at the crease. Padikkal managed to score 17 runs from 15 deliveries, including one four and one six. His innings ended in the 16th over when Matheesha Pathirana deceived him with a well-disguised slower ball.

RCB’s Dominant Batting Performance

RCB, after being asked to bat first, getting off to a sensational start with Virat Kohli (62) and Jacob Bethell (53) forging a 97-run partnership. Both batters played with exceptional timing, keeping the scoreboard moving effortlessly. However, it was Romario Shepherd who stole the spotlight. Arriving at No. 6, he unleashed a breathtaking assault, smashing an unbeaten 53 off just 14 balls. His innings, filled with towering sixes and relentless boundaries, completely shattered CSK’s hopes, turning the game in RCB’s favor.

With RCB at 159/5 after 18 overs, Romario Shepherd stepped in and completely turned the game around. In the final two overs, he unleashed a brutal assault, smashing CSK’s bowlers to all corners of the park. His explosive hitting propelled RCB to a massive total of 213/5, shifting the momentum entirely in their favor and leaving CSK stunned.
