Sandpaper Gate: Australian Trio banned by Cricket Australia

Cricket Australia gave punishments to Steve Smith and David Warner for 1 year while banning Cameron Bancroft for 9 months. Yesterday in the press conference, Cricket Australia CEO, James Sutherland decided to send Steve Smith, David Warner and Cameron Bancroft to home.

Cameron Bancroft was caught using a yellow tape during the third’s day play of 3rd test played at Cape Town. While Australian coach Darren Lehmann was given a clean chit in this matter. The incident was caught on the cameras as the on-field umpires Richard Illingworth, Nigel Long, along with third umpire Ian Gould and fourth umpire Allahudein Palekar charged Bancroft.

Smith was handed one test match ban. Captain Smith and Bancroft accepted the mistake after the press conference after the 3rd day’s play. The Australian government including David Peever, Earl Eddings, DR Bob Every, John Harnden, Jacquie Hary, Mark Taylor and Michael Kasprowicz interacted for 2 and half hours to determine the sanctions on the David Warner, Steve Smith, and Cameron Bancroft.

Matthew Renshaw, Joe Burns, and Glenn Maxwell have been called as their replacements. It is a big blow for Australian cricket to lose two top players who have done so much for the cricketing world. Smith had brain fade moment during the second test match against India at Bengaluru when the captain decided to ask for a review from the dressing room.

Steve Smith and David Warner would not be able to play the home series against India this year. Bancroft will be suspended for 9 months. Smith and Warner would be available for World Cup 2019 and Ashes series.

Steve Smith and David Warner would not captain their respective franchises in IPL 2018. In wake of Sandpaper gate ball tampering case, Steve Smith and Warner could not captain the Australian Cricket team for next two years.
