Sanju Samson

Sanju Samson

Sanju Samson, captain of the Rajasthan Royals (RR), has reportedly made a formal request to the franchise to either trade him or release him into the IPL auction pool. According to a report by Cricbuzz, tensions between Samson and the RR management have intensified to the point where he has expressed a desire to move to a different team, either through a trade or by being picked up at auction.

The report also mentioned that members of Samson’s family believe he no longer wishes to continue with the franchise that won the first-ever IPL title. Samson has had two separate stints with RR, initially playing from 2013 to 2015 before joining the Delhi franchise when RR was suspended for two seasons.

He rejoined RR in 2018 and has since been retained twice by the team, ahead of the mega auctions in both 2022 and 2024. Sanju Samson appeared in only 9 of the 14 games for Rajasthan Royals (RR) in IPL 2025, scoring 285 runs at a strike rate of 140.39. The team concluded the season in ninth position on the standings.

CSK Eye Sanju Samson For Potential Signing Ahead Of IPL 2026

In July 2025, it was reported that five-time IPL champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) had shown interest in acquiring Sanju Samson for the 2026 season. A CSK official, speaking anonymously, stated that the team would explore the possibility of signing the 30-year-old if he became available.

“We are definitely looking at Sanju. He is an Indian batter, who is a keeper and an opener. So if he is available, we will certainly have a look at the option of having him in our fold. Who we will trade him with we have not taken that call because the matter has not gone that far. But yes, in principle, we are interested,” the official had said.
