Senior Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has been struggling with a shoulder injury, confirmed head coach Russell Domingo ahead of the second ODI against India. The penultimate ODI is scheduled to take place at the Sher-e Bangla Stadium in Dhaka on Wednesday, December 7.
Shakib was at his very best after in the first game he picked up a five-wicket haul, including Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, and helped the hosts bowl India out for 186 at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka. He also scored crucial 29 runs as the Bangla Tigers eventually edged out the Men in Blue in a low-scoring thriller, beating the tourists by one wicket.
Russell Domingo stated that Shakib al Hasan was a tad reluctant to put a lot of revs on the ball keeping in mind his shoulder. Addressing reporters on the eve of the second ODI, he said:
“I know he is struggling a little bit with his shoulder. Maybe not trying to spin the ball much as he has done in the past. He is playing so many T20s where he is just trying to bowl straight at the stumps.”
Russell Domingo defends Mahmudullah and Mushfiqur Rahim after 1st ODI
Russell Domingo said Bangladesh aren’t looking for replacements for Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah for the time being. Both batters struggled in the first ODI against India on Sunday, December 4 at the Sher-e-Bangla Stadium in Dhaka.
“Firstly, I am going to defend my players. In the last two games in Zimbabwe, Mahmudullah got 80 and 39. I am very reluctant to say that [it is time to find their replacements]. Both players have times in their career when they are searching for runs,” Domingo added.
Bangladesh will hope to continue their winning run and wrap up the series against India with one match to spare.
