Shubman Gill was all praise for Rishabh Pant after the left-handed wicketkeeper-batsman scored a match-winning 89* in the second innings at The Gabba to help India win the Test match and the series. Chasing 328 to win, Shubman Gill scored a brilliant 91 at the top and Pant’s heroic innings helped India make history in Australia.
The two youngsters ended up as the highest-run-getters in the series. Gill in his debut series scored 259 runs while Pant ended as the top-scorer among the Indian batsmen scoring 274 runs.
After returning to India, Shubman Gill spoke to Hindustan Times and recalled India’s famous series win in Australia. H spoke about India’s approach to chasing down the score on the final day of the Gabba Test.
“The team was aiming for a win. The way Washington Sundar and Shardul Thakur played in the first innings was outstanding. We got a good start in the second innings. The way Cheteshwar Pujara paaji took the blows was so inspiring. Thereafter, Rishabh Pant played an amazing brand of cricket,” Gill was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.

Rishabh Pant is my hero – Shubman Gill
He then spoke about Rishabh Pant’s innings in the second innings at the Gabba in particular and his intent while he was batting. The southpaw from Delhi batted fearlessly taking on the likes of Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, and Josh Hazlewood to take India to a historic win.
“We all were egging him on from the dressing room. He is my hero and also my go-to person in the team. Hats off to him for his stunning 89—despite an injury (97 at the SCG braving a painful elbow), he made batting look easy,” he added.
India managed to create history at The Gabba, becoming the first team to beat the Aussies after 31 years at the venue. They did all these without their senior players Virat Kohli, Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, and Mohammed Shami.
Indian commentators and the media said that this was the beginning of ‘New India’ after their impressive series win. They said that they play fearless cricket and do not back down from any challenge thrown at them.
Both Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant have been picked in the Indian Test squad for the first two Test against England starting from February 05.
