The captain of Test and ODI is likely to be promoted to the elite Grade A+ category, which is a major milestone in the development of his cricket career. The BCCI’s 31st Annual General Meeting is slated for December 22, where central contracts will be the focal point. This meeting will be the official venue for discussions and finalizing the contract terms for the next season.
In case Gill is elevated to Grade A+, it would be a blend of his taking up the role of a captain and great performance, consistent during the year, throughout the formats.
BCCI to Move Shubman Gill’s Central Contract to Grade A+ Category
As per the PTI reports, the Indian cricket board is seriously thinking about making Shubman Gill a Grade A+ player, which would mean a significant increase in his salary. If this goes through, he will be part of a very select group along with Ravindra Jadeja and Jasprit Bumrah, who received the highest-paid contracts in 2024-25. Thus, this move would mean that Gill is being considered one of Indian cricket’s most famous players and his salary is a reflection of the rapid rise in his status in the team.
Shubman Gill’s journey has been nothing short of spectacular and he has proven himself quite a lot in a very short time. He was appointed ODI captain, replacing Rohit Sharma, and the first challenge was against Australia. Quickly after that, he got the Test captaincy position after Rohit retired from the format and he was chosen over strong contenders like Rishabh Pant and Jasprit Bumrah.
Gill’s first task as Test captain was to take on the tough England away series, which tested him. Despite the strong opponent and difficult ground, the young leader showed his strength and managed to get India a respectable 2-2 draw in the five-match series. This performance has already made him a reliable and calm leader; thus, his credentials are getting stronger every day.
