Shubman Gill’s ₹3 Lakh Water Purifier Not Linked to Indore Health Crisis: Report

Ahead of the third and final ODI between India and New Zealand in Indore, Indian ODI captain Shubman Gill unexpectedly found himself at the centre of online discussions. Reports had surfaced claiming that Gill was travelling with a high-end personal water purifier costing around ₹3 lakh.

The timing of this revelation raised eyebrows, especially because Indore has recently been grappling with a water contamination and health-related issue. Many assumed that Gill’s decision was directly linked to concerns over the city’s water quality ahead of the crucial match.

However, new information has clarified that these assumptions were misplaced. According to a report, Gill’s use of the purifier had nothing to do with the local situation in Indore and was not a reaction to the ongoing health scare.

Report Clarifies No Link to Indore Health Crisis

As per a report by Cricbuzz, Gill’s decision to carry the purifier was not Indore-specific and was simply part of his established travel routine. The report dismissed the speculation that the Indian batter took special precautions due to the city’s recent issues.

The report clearly stated: “Such purifiers are used by top sportspersons across disciplines, not just cricketers. However, there is no information of other cricketers carrying similar machines to Indore, where the third and final ODI against New Zealand will be played on Sunday.”

This clarification helped put to rest the rumours suggesting that Gill’s move was a direct response to fears surrounding local water safety.

Focus on Recovery, Fitness, and Hydration Standards

The Cricbuzz report further highlighted that Gill’s decision stems from his ongoing commitment to fitness and recovery rather than any external concern. After recently recovering from dengue, the Indian skipper has reportedly become extra cautious about his health and hydration levels.

According to the report, the purifier forms part of a larger recovery and wellness plan, with Gill placing strong emphasis on maintaining “strict hydration standards as part of his fitness routine.” For elite athletes competing at the international level, such measures are often standard practice to ensure consistency in performance, especially during demanding tours.

As India prepared to face New Zealand in the series decider, the episode highlighted how easily speculation can overshadow routine professional practices. In reality, Gill’s actions underline the growing focus among modern athletes on recovery, health optimisation, and long-term performance rather than any immediate local concerns.
