Yuzvendra Chahal made a fine comeback in the Indian team playing against Sri Lanka in the first ODI, on July 18. The leg-spinner bagged two crucial wickets, including the skipper Sri Lankan Dasun Shanaka.

Avishka Fernando, who was Chahal’s first victim, got Sri Lanka off to a decent start. He was looking set at the crease, with 33 runs off 34 balls, before chipping a leg-break delivery straight to Manish Pandey.  Dasun Shanaka was caught by Hardik Pandya at the long-on in the 44th over of the match, handing Chahal his second wicket of the match.

Chahal made his India debut in 2016 and has a fantastic white-ball record. He has represented India in over 50 ODIs so far, picking 94 wickets at an average of 27.27. But with Ravindra Jadeja making a brilliant comeback, Chahal has struggled to be a regular in India’s playing XI. The Sri Lanka series is an opportunity for him to revive his international career.

In the second ODI, Chahal, who will be playing his 56th ODI match, is on the cusp of achieving a special record. He needs six wickets in the match to equal Mohammed Shami’s record of fastest Indian to get 100 wickets in ODI (56 matches).

Jasprit Bumrah is second on the list with 100 wickets in 57 matches, while Kuldeep Yadav is third (58 matches). While the six-wicket haul seems to be a huge ask, Chahal has previously managed to achieve this feat as 6/42 is his best in ODIs.

We Share Inputs, Back Each Other: Kuldeep Yadav On Bowling With Yuzvendra Chahal

Yuzvendra Chahal’s spin twin Kuldeep Yadav is also going through a similar phase in his International career. The spin duo, popularly known as ‘KulCha’ got together again after a long time to spun a web against the Sri Lankan batsmen. Just like Chahal, Kuldeep also picked up two wickets in his comeback match in the first ODI. Speaking about bowling in partnership with Chahal, Kuldeep said,

“Very happy that after a long time Chahal and I got to play together for the team. We are comfortable with each other and we back each other.”

He also stated that the two share a nice bonding and often share inputs on the field.

“We both share inputs on the field whenever it is required, the bonding is nice between us both. We performed well together, we played after a long time and it orders well for the side, said Kuldeep.

The second ODI between India and Sri Lanka is all set to take place on July 20 at R. Premadasa Stadium, Colombo.
