Sourav Ganguly Opines On The India-Pakistan Match In The Asia Cup 2023

Sourav Ganguly, the former captain of the Indian cricket team, expressed his belief that India will always be the favourites when facing arch-rivals Pakistan in significant tournaments.

With the Asia Cup 2023 on the horizon, where India and Pakistan are scheduled to clash at least twice, Ganguly highlighted India’s impressive track record against their neighbours in major competitions.

During an interview with RevSportz, the 51-year-old shared his thoughts, stating that India’s historical dominance over Pakistan makes them the favoured team. However, he acknowledged that the current Pakistan team is strong and should not be underestimated.

Looking beyond the Asia Cup, Ganguly also spoke about the possibility of an India-Pakistan semi-final match at Eden Gardens during the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. Expressing his delight, he credited the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and Jay Shah for allocating the semi-final to the iconic venue.

Ganguly revealed that he had discussions with Jay Shah and believed that the Cricket Association of Bengal had also advocated for the matches to be held at Eden Gardens. Ganguly praised Eden Gardens, which has a capacity of 60-70,000 spectators, as a fantastic venue that has hosted several significant matches in the past.

He also revealed plans to increase the stadium’s capacity to around 100,000 in the next two years. Sourav Ganguly emphasized the importance of Eden Gardens hosting matches during the World Cup, considering it to be a major event in cricket.

Notably, Eden Gardens is set to host the second semi-final of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 on November 16.

“He has won five IPL” – Ganguly expressed optimism about the leadership abilities of Indian captain Rohit Sharma

Ganguly highlighted Sharma’s impressive record as the captain of the Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League (IPL), where he has led the team to victory in five editions of the tournament.

In conclusion, Ganguly’s belief in India’s favouritism against Pakistan and his confidence in Rohit Sharma’s captaincy skills highlight the excitement surrounding upcoming cricket tournaments.
