South African cricketer Mondli Khumalo has been hospitalized and is in critical condition. He was assaulted outside a pub in the United Kingdom. Khumalo represented South Africa in the ICC U19 World Cup in 2020.
The youngster was on his first overseas stint as a professional for the North Petherton Cricket Club in the UK when he was assaulted. He was celebrating his team’s victory in a pub on Saturday night.
As per the Espncricinfo, the South African cricketer was found unconscious after the assault. He suffered bleeding in his brain and was in an induced coma in Southmead hospital.
Khumalo is contracted with the Kwazulu-Natal (KZN) Inland club. The Chief Executive of the club stated that the cricketer is stable and confident.
“He had surgery yesterday and the surgeon has reported that the operation was as successful as it could be. Mondli is in an induced coma, but the surgeon is positive that he can recover from this,” Sathiaseelan told Club Cricket SA.
