Star Player Faces Complaint Over Alleged Insult to Indian Flag During IND vs NZ T20 World Cup 2026 Celebrations

A complaint has been filed against Hardik Pandya for allegedly disrespecting the Indian flag during the celebrations after the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 final. India defeated New Zealand by 96 runs in the final to win the trophy for the third time.

During the celebrations at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Hardik Pandya was seen celebrating with his girlfriend, Mahieka Sharma. At that time, the Indian national flag was tied around his back.

Advocate Wajid Khan claimed that the dignity of the flag was disrespected when Hardik was lying down with his girlfriend while wearing the flag. He referred to Section 2 of the National Flag Act, 1971 while raising the issue, according to ANI.

Wajid Khan has filed a complaint against the cricketer at the Shivaji Nagar Police Station.

“You must have seen the T20 World Cup here. Hardik Pandya was dancing with his girlfriend in celebration of his victory. The national flag was tied to his back… According to Section 2 of the 1971 National Flag Act, we should respect the dignity of the national flag.”

“However, Hardik Pandya was so lost in the celebration of his victory that he was lying with his girlfriend, wearing the national flag… I believe it is an insult to the national flag. I have filed a complaint with the Shivaji Nagar police station. When I went to file the complaint, they told me the incident occurred there, not here.”

“So I told them that the national flag is a symbol of the entire nation, and we can file a complaint with the Shivaji Nagar police. They have accepted my complaint and provided me with a copy. Let’s see what happens next. I have filed the complaint,” he was quoted as saying.

Wajid also said that legal action should be taken against Hardik Pandya for allegedly disrespecting the Indian national flag. He added that the matter could also be taken to court, and action could be taken against the cricketer under the law.
