Hardik Pandya's Absence in VHT Matches Sparks Debate with Champions Trophy Approaching

Star India all-rounder Hardik Pandya was spotted introducing his girlfriend Mahieka Sharma to India head coach Gautam Gambhir ahead of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 final against New Zealand national cricket team. The summit clash is set to take place on Sunday, March 8, in Ahmedabad.

India secured their place in the final after defeating England national cricket team by seven runs in the semifinal. The Men in Blue put up a massive total of 253 runs on Thursday, March 5, at the Wankhede Stadium. A day later, the Indian squad gathered at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai before flying to Ahmedabad.

During the routine security checks, Gambhir was standing ahead of the couple in the queue. Pandya tapped the coach on the shoulder and introduced him to Mahieka, after which Gambhir warmly hugged her as she congratulated him on India’s semifinal victory. Watch the video here:

Meanwhile, India national cricket team have a chance to create history on Sunday if they win the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup final. A victory would give India their third title in the tournament’s history, making them the first team to achieve that milestone. It would also see them become the first side to successfully defend the T20 World Cup crown.

Hardik Pandya’s T20I Stats Against New Zealand

As Indian cricket team prepare to take on New Zealand in the final, Hardik Pandya will once again be expected to play a key role with both bat and ball. Against the Black Caps, the 32-year-old has played 18 T20Is, scoring 242 runs in 15 innings at an average of 20.16 and a strike rate of 130.10, with his highest score being 42.

With the ball, the seam-bowling all-rounder has taken 13 wickets in 15 innings at an average of 27.00 and a strike rate of 18.0, while maintaining an economy rate of 9.00. His best bowling figures in the format, 4/16, also came against New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Stadium in 2023.

In the ongoing ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, Pandya has been in fine form, scoring 199 runs with two half-centuries and also claiming eight wickets.
