Mixed-Soil Pitch Likely To Be Used For IND vs NZ T20 World Cup 2026 Final at Narendra Modi StadiumReports: Reports

A pitch made using a mix of black and red soil—mostly red—is likely to be used for the T20 World Cup 2026 Final between India and New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday, March 8. The pitch at this massive venue had earlier been widely discussed when it hosted the 2023 ODI World Cup Final between India and Australia.

In that match, India played on a black-soil pitch, but the plan did not work in their favor. Batting first, they managed to score only 240 runs. Australia comfortably chased the target, thanks to an outstanding innings from Travis Head, finishing the chase with seven overs left and winning their sixth ODI World Cup title.

Something similar happened when India faced South Africa at the same stadium during the Super 8 stage of the T20 World Cup 2026. Playing on a black-soil pitch, South Africa recovered from 20/3 to post 187 runs. India eventually lost the match by 76 runs, which was their first defeat in the tournament since the semifinal of the T20 World Cup 2022.

“The Indian team will be offered a mixed-soil pitch at the Narendra Modi Stadium for the finals. It will be a sporting pitch where there won’t be any undue advantage. More of red soil on this track means there will be some bounce and batsmen will also have an advantage,” a source told the Indian Express.

Team India are aiming to make history by becoming the first team to win the T20 World Cup three times. They also have the chance to become the first side to successfully defend their title and lift the trophy on home soil.

Team India Management Unhappy with Pitch Quality in T20 World Cup 2026 Group Stage

According to the same report, the Indian team management were not happy with the pitches used during the group stage. Even though India finished the group stage without losing a match, their performances were not very convincing at times, especially in games against teams like the USA.

However, the nature of the pitches has changed significantly in the last three matches. This has helped India’s batters perform better, as the team crossed the 250-run mark twice in those three games, including in the recent semifinal against England at the Wankhede Stadium.
