Sunil Narine, who has been a key member of the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) since the 2012 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), made history on Tuesday (April 29) during Match 47 of the IPL 2025 season against Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
The legendary West Indies spinner equaled the world record for the most wickets taken for a single team in T20 cricket. Since his T20 debut for KKR in 2012, Narine has featured in 195 matches for the franchise co-owned by Shah Rukh Khan and has claimed 208 wickets.
In the match against Delhi Capitals, while defending a target of 205, Narine took 3 wickets for 29 runs in his four-over spell. With those three scalps, he drew level with former England all-rounder Samit Patel’s record of 208 wickets for a single T20 team. Samit Patel featured in 232 T20 games for Nottinghamshire, during which he took 208 wickets.

Narine’s brilliant bowling performance on Tuesday played a crucial role in Kolkata Knight Riders’ (KKR) 14-run victory over Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, keeping their hopes alive for a top-four finish and a spot in the IPL 2025 playoffs.
He opened his account by dismissing DC captain Axar Patel, who was caught by Harshit Rana on the second delivery of the 14th over. Axar contributed a quickfire 43 off 23 balls, which included four boundaries and three sixes.
Later in the same over, Narine clean-bowled Tristan Stubbs, sending him back for just 1 run off 3 balls. Narine’s third breakthrough came in the 16th over when he got Faf du Plessis out, with Rinku Singh taking the catch to remove the former South African skipper.
