Shubman Gill Under Spotlight As India’s Asia Cup 2025 Squad Countdown Begins
India’s Asia Cup 2025 squad will be announced on Tuesday, August 19, with attention on Test captain Shubman Gill and the possibility of his return to the T20I side. The 25-year-old last appeared in the shortest format in July 2024 and was excluded from later series.
During that time, India turned to Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma as their opening pair, while Tilak Varma occupied a spot in the top order. Former spinner Harbhajan Singh has included Gill in his preferred Asia Cup squad, stating that the right-hander possesses the skills to succeed in T20 cricket.
Some reports had suggested that Shubman Gill might captain India in the Asia Cup 2025 if Suryakumar Yadav was unavailable, but those claims have now been dismissed.
