The T20 World Cup 2026 clash between Ireland and Zimbabwe at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium on Tuesday, February 17 was called off due to rain. As a result of the washout, Zimbabwe sealed their spot in the Super 8 stage, becoming the seventh team to qualify and thereby ending Australia’s campaign.
Zimbabwe sit on five points from three matches in Group B, while Australia managed only two points from their three outings. From Group A, India are the only side to have confirmed their place in the Super 8s. In Group B, Sri Lanka joined Zimbabwe in advancing.
Meanwhile, West Indies and England progressed from Group C, and South Africa along with New Zealand moved ahead from Group D. The final Super 8 berth is now a two-way battle in Group A between Pakistan and USA.
USA currently occupy second place in Group A with four points from four matches. Pakistan, after suffering a 61-run defeat to India in Colombo on Sunday, dropped to third in the standings, also with four points but from three games.
How Pakistan And USA Can Seal Super 8 Spots At T20 World Cup 2026
Pakistan are set to face Namibia in their final Group A fixture of T20 World Cup 2026 at the Sinhalese Sports Club in Colombo on Wednesday, February 18. A victory in this afternoon encounter would take Pakistan to six points and secure their place in the Super 8 stage. With six points, they would leapfrog USA, who concluded their group campaign with four points.
However, if Namibia pull off a win, it would significantly boost USA’s chances. In that case, both Pakistan and USA would finish on four points apiece. USA would then advance to the next round courtesy of their superior net run rate (+0.787), while Pakistan, currently on -0.403, would be eliminated from the tournament.
The Netherlands also have a slim mathematical chance of ending with four points if they upset India in their final Group A match at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Wednesday. Nevertheless, given their poor net run rate of -1.352, it appears highly unlikely they would break into the top two even with a convincing win.
