“The Way The Country’s Situation Is” -Shaheen Shah Afridi Highlights The Importance Of PSL During Pakistan’s Crisis

Shaheen Shah Afridi, captain of Pakistan in T20Is and Lahore Qalandars, emphasizes the significance of PSL for the nation’s well-being. Amidst challenges in various aspects, the left-arm pacer believes the T20 league offers the people a source of diversion and happiness.

The current political tension, especially with former captain and Prime Minister Imran Khan’s recent arrest and release on bail, adds to the challenges, while the general populace faces difficulties even in meeting basic needs.

“The way the country’s situation is. The PSL and cricket is something that makes people happy. Elections just got over, so I’m hopeful the crowds turn up and support cricket,” Afridi told ESPNcricinfo.

“Before becoming captain, I was unaware of many things”- Shaheen Shah Afridi

Afridi went on to assert that he has gained significant knowledge since assuming the role of captain, highlighting the importance for a leader to unite the team and interact effectively with everyone.

“When I wasn’t captain, I didn’t know a lot of things. Some so them are so basic I don’t even want to tell you about them. When you’re a bowler you only focus on yourself and your bowling,” he explained.

“When you’re captain, the 11 who play and the five sitting on the bench are all your players. You have to treat them as individuals, talk to them all, and keep a friendly atmosphere.”

”You even have a responsibility to conduct yourself in a particular way with the coaching staff, because you’re all pursuing the same goals,” Afridi added.

Afridi assumed leadership of the Qalandars in the PSL for the 2022 edition, guiding them to consecutive titles. Following his impressive PSL performances, the 23-year-old took over as Pakistan’s T20I captain from Babar Azam post the 2023 ODI World Cup. However, Pakistan faced their first series defeat under his captaincy, with a 4-1 loss to New Zealand in an away series.
