Team India registered a thumping victory against Pakistan in the women’s cricket event at the 2022 Commonwealth Games on Sunday, July 31 at the Edgbaston Stadium in Birmingham. They thrashed the arch-rivals by eight wickets chasing 100 runs in the match. With this dominating win, the Harmanpreet Kaur-led team is off the mark at the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

Pakistan skipper Bismah Maroof won the toss and elected to bat first. However, their batters could not make the most of the opportunity. They lost the opener, Iram Javed, for a duck in the first over and then kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Pakistan was at 96/5 at one point in the game but then lost the next five wickets adding just three runs to the total.

Sneh Rana and Radha Yadav were the top performers with the ball for India, with two wickets. Meanwhile, Renuka Singh, Meghna Singh, and Shafali Verma took a wicket each. Pakistan lost three wickets to run-outs, including a horrible mix-up in the match. In reply, India chased down the target in 11.4 overs, with eight wickets to spare.

Indian vice-captain remained unbeaten in the innings with a fifty to take India home. She slammed 63 runs off forty-two deliveries, including eight boundaries and three sixes at a strike rate of 150. The fans were delighted with India’s dominating win over Pakistan in the tournament and lauded the team’s performance.
