New Zealand’s Tim Southee has surpassed former Indian batter Virender Sehwag on the all-time list for most sixes in Test cricket. Sehwag played 104 Tests for India, amassing 8,586 runs at a strike rate of 82.23, including 32 fifties and 23 centuries, with a total of 91 sixes.
Southee reached this milestone on Day 3 of the Test against India at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on October 18. Batting at No. 9, he scored 65 runs off 73 balls, hitting five fours and four sixes.

Before the match, Southee had hit 89 sixes in his Test career, and with his performance in this game, he increased his total to 93, surpassing Sehwag’s record. He has now scored 2,180 runs in 103 Tests at a strike rate of 82.66, with seven fifties.
Meanwhile, England Test captain Ben Stokes leads the list with 131 sixes in 106 Tests, followed by former New Zealand captain and current England Test coach Brendon McCullum, who hit 107 sixes in his 101-match career.
Adam Gilchrist ranks third with 100 sixes, while Chris Gayle is fourth with 98, and Jacques Kallis completes the top five with 97 sixes.
Tim Southee and Rachin Ravindra’s partnership pushed New Zealand’s lead beyond 300 in the Test against India
Indian bowlers began Day 3 strongly, bringing the visitors down from 193-3 to 233-7. Tim Southee and Rachin Ravindra put together a 137-run partnership for the eighth wicket off just 132 balls. Southee made 65 runs off 73 balls, while Rachin reached his century during this stand.
At that time, New Zealand was at 376-8 after 89 overs, leading by 330 runs, with Rachin on 110 and Ajaz Patel on 4. Earlier in the match, the hosts were dismissed for 46, marking their third-lowest total in Test history.
This marks the first time in 92 years that Team India has been dismissed for under 50 runs at home. Matt Henry took 5 wickets, while Michael O’Rourke claimed 4. In response, New Zealand scored 402 runs, boosted by a brilliant century from Rachin Ravindra. Devon Conway and Tim Southee also contributed with half-centuries.
