Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) defeated Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by two runs in a high scoring and thriller game at DY Patil Stadium in the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). With this win, KL Rahul and Co. booked their playoff berth. 

While chasing the target of 211 runs, the Knight Riders didn’t get a good start. They lost the early wicket of Venkatesh Iyer. Quinton De Kock grabbed a brilliant catch on the bowling of Mohsin Khan to end Venkatesh’s stay in the middle. But Nitish Rana played a counterattacking knock to bring back KKR in the game.

He smashed five fours in the over off Avesh Khan in the powerplay. Nitish played an impactful knock of 42 runs in 22 balls. Captain Shreyas Iyer also led from the front in the run chase. Iyer played an amazing knock of 50 runs in 29 balls. Sam Billings also played an impactful knock of 36 runs.

In the end, KKR needed 38 runs off two overs to win. Sunil Narine and Rinku Singh collected 17 runs from the 19th over of Holder. Now KKR needed 21 runs in the last over with Marcus Stoinis bowling the last over. Rinku Singh smashed Stoinnis for 4,6,6,2 in the first 4 balls. But Stoinis dismissed Rinku on the 5th ball. With 3 runs needed on the last ball, Stoinis also dismissed Umesh Yadav on the last ball of the 20th over to seal the crunch game for LSG.

Quinton De Kock and KL Rahul stay unbeaten for 20 overs

After electing to bat first, Quinton De Kock and KL Rahul gave a good start to Lucknow Super in the powerplay. Later, both of them carried forward the momentum in the middle and death overs too. Rahul and De Kock formed 210 runs opening partnership which is the highest opening partnership in the history of IPL. Lucknow ended their innings with 210 runs for  0 wickets. 

Quinton ran the show with his brilliant century. De Kock scored 140 runs in 70 balls. It was a historical knock from the South African. Rahul played the role of anchor and he supported De Kock really well with his knock of 68 runs in 51 balls. Sunil Narine was the most economical bowler for KKR.
