Two New IPL Teams Likely To Be Auctioned In May: Reports

Jay Shah IPL 2021 BCCI-SGM Meeting

The top BCCI Officials led by Sourav Ganguly met for a meeting on Saturday (March 13), regarding the execution of various policy decisions that were approved by the IPL Governing Council at the start of 2021. There have been some new developments that states that two new IPL teams will be auctioned in May, during the upcoming IPL 2021 edition’s final stages.

A BCCI official spoke about the 10-team IPL tournament next year and that the bidding process for the teams will start in May 2021 during the IPL 2021 season. The IPL 2021 was thought to be a 10-team tournament but the board decided to postpone it by a year saying that there is not enough time for a 1-team tournament this season. However, now the board seems ready to make it happen in the next season. The decision to expand the league was taken following the highly-successful IPL 2020 edition, which took place entirely in UAE amid strict COVID-19 protocols in place for all franchises.

New IPL Teams To Roll Out In 2022

“The 10 team IPL will roll on from next year and the bidding process and finalisation of the new franchises will be completed by the month of May this year. Once the teams are finalised, they can start their operational work which takes considerable time” the BCCI official said to PTI.

Meanwhile, the official also said that the Indian ODI squad for the three-match series against England will be announced on Sunday (March 14).

“The team is expected to be announced tomorrow. Neither skipper Virat Kohli nor his deputy Rohit Sharma has opted for rest. There aren’t many surprises as we prepare for World T20” the BCCI official said.

The second T20I between the two sides will also be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday. England won the first game comprehensively as some questions came up with the Indian team that was selected for the game.

The decision to rest Rohit Sharma puzzled the experts and his absence was felt big time. Indian skipper Virat Kohli said at the toss that Rohit would be rested for the first two games.
