Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) vice-captain, Venkatesh Iyer, has expressed his enthusiasm for playing under the leadership of Ajinkya Rahane in the upcoming IPL 2025 season. With Shreyas Iyer moving to Punjab Kings (PBKS), Rahane has been entrusted with the responsibility of leading KKR.
Venkatesh highlighted Rahane’s influence on the team, emphasizing that his leadership qualities are already making an impact. Speaking in an interview with ANI, he stated, “So far, he has been an amazing leader of the group.”
Leadership and Experience Define Rahane
Venkatesh praised Rahane’s extensive experience, noting that he has captained India across all formats and has previously led multiple IPL teams. He described Rahane as a composed leader who remains calm under pressure and possesses a strong cricketing mindset.
The all-rounder also shared his eagerness to learn from Rahane’s leadership style this season, as he believes the veteran cricketer’s experience will be invaluable to the squad. Rahane’s ability to guide players and maintain composure in high-pressure situations has earned him admiration within the team.

Venkatesh Iyer Embraces Vice-Captaincy Role
Taking on the vice-captaincy, Venkatesh Iyer acknowledged the added responsibility but revealed that he has always approached the game with a leadership mindset. When asked about his preparation for the role, he stated that he did not have to change much, as he naturally carries himself as a leader on the field. According to him, leadership is about having the right mindset, accepting responsibility, and being ready to step up when needed.
Meanwhile, Ajinkya Rahane also shared his excitement about leading KKR in IPL 2025. Acquired for ₹1.5 crore at the mega auction, Rahane expressed his gratitude to the franchise for entrusting him with the captaincy.
Speaking to Star Sports, he said, “First of all, it’s an honor for me to be the captain of this wonderful franchise, and I’m really thankful and grateful to the management for giving me this opportunity.”
With a strong leadership duo in place, KKR will aim for a successful season under Rahane’s guidance.
