Mumbai Indians (MI) have signed leg-spinner Raghu Sharma as a replacement for the injured Vignesh Puthur for the rest of IPL 2025. The 31-year-old right-arm leg-break bowler from Jalandhar has represented Punjab and Puducherry in domestic cricket.
Sharma boasts an impressive first-class record with 57 wickets in 11 matches at an average of 19.59, including a best of 7/56. He has also taken 14 wickets in 9 List A games and 3 wickets in 3 T20 matches. This will be Sharma’s IPL debut, and he joins MI at his base price of Rs 30 lakh from the RAPP list.
Puthur’s injury came at a time when he was starting to make an impact in the tournament. After making his IPL debut in MI’s season opener against Chennai Super Kings in March, where he took three wickets, he went on to play five matches, claiming six wickets before his season was cut short by injury.
Although sidelined, Vignesh Puthur will stay with the team and focus on his recovery, working closely with the Mumbai Indians’ medical and strength & conditioning staff. The franchise has shown its full support for the 22-year-old as he begins his rehabilitation.
