Indian skipper Virat Kohli is eyeing up a few records heading into the fourth Test against England. India needs to ensure that they do not lose the fourth Test to cement a spot in the World Test Championship final. England won the first Test in Chennai to make a great start to the series. Losses in the next two Test matches and especially in the third Test has wounded their confidence a little bit. Meanwhile, Virat Kohli is yet again on the verge of creating a new record.
Virat Kohli has led India in 59 Tests matches, which makes him one short of former Indian skipper MS Dhoni. Dhoni led India in 60 Tests. Thus Kohli is all set to go on par with the former Indian skipper.

Apart from this record, the current Indian skipper has another record in sight. Kohli could go on to complete 12,000 runs as the captain of the Indian Team in international cricket. Only Ricky Ponting and Graeme Smith are above Kohli in the list.
Virat Kohli Looking To Equal MS Dhoni
With 35 Test wins already to his name, Kohli has the opportunity to match Clive Lloyd’s record. The Windies legend sits fourth on the list of the most number of wins as captain in the longest format of the game with 36 wins to his name.
Virat Kohli has gone without a century for more than a year now. He has 41 international centuries as captain. Former Australian skipper Ricky Ponting too has 41 centuries to his name. Kohli would surpass Ricky Ponting in the list of most international tons as captain in the next Test as well.

On the other hand, England skipper Joe Root has said that a drawn series against India would be a great achievement as captain while talking to ESPN Cricinfo.
“It would certainly be up there with my greatest achievements as captain. The progress we’ve made over the last couple of years has been really pleasing, especially away from home. If we end up winning this game it’d be four wins out of six Tests on this tour. It would be a phenomenal achievement” Root said.
