Since 2008, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) has been one of the most popular teams of the tournament. Many star players have been a part of this team and they have one of the largest fan bases amongst the 8 IPL teams. The only thing missing from RCB is an IPL trophy. They haven’t been really successful as a franchise in terms of winning the silverware.
Current Indian & RCB skipper Virat Kohli has been a part of the franchise since the inception of the tournament in 2008. He was made the captain of the side in 2013 and although his captaincy has been questioned quite a lot of times and he has often been told to change his team.
Virat Kohli as a player has done everything he can for the franchise. He has 5878 runs under his belt with 39 fifties and 5 centuries. Even after contributing so much for the team, they have not been able to win the title therefore he has been urged by others to leave RCB.
Never felt the need to leave to RCB -Virat Kohli
Virat Kohli during his interaction before the opener of IPL 2021, said that the bond between him and the franchise is natural and he has never felt the need to leave them just because they lack trophies. He also said that there is no pressure on the management to retain him every year and everything is extremely organic.
“A lot of fun on the field and I as an individual have never felt that I wanna move away from the system just because I haven’t won a title. That happens because things have been so organic, this cannot be created anywhere. This cannot be manufactured in a way that people are forcing me to play, and I am forcing the management to keep me, there has never been a conversation like that.” Virat Kohli said in a video.
He added that all the players at RCB play their hearts out and give in their 100%. He said that all the fans understood the type of entertaining cricket RCB play which is why they are loyal and stick with the franchise at all times.
“There are a couple of other teams who have great fan bases but I think we are a team who get a lot of support and adulation wherever we play because we play a certain brand of cricket. We will play our heart out, we might not be composed enough in many difficult situations in the past but there has never been a shortage of passion, commitment, intensity,” Virat Kohli said in a video uploaded on RCB’s Twitter handle.
