Virat Kohli had a shaky start to the 2025 Champions Trophy, struggling to make an impact in India‘s opening match against Bangladesh. Chasing the target, he found it difficult to handle the spinners and was eventually dismissed after scoring 22 runs off 38 balls.
India will be counting on Kohli to find his form in their crucial clash against Pakistan. The Men in Blue are set to face New Zealand on March 2 in their final group-stage match of the tournament.
How has Virat Kohli fared in past Champions Trophy tournaments?
Virat Kohli is the leading run-scorer in the Champions Trophy among all players in India’s squad for the 2025 edition. He has amassed 551 runs in 14 matches at an impressive average of 78.71, including five half-centuries.
Kohli’s highest score in the tournament came in the 2017 semifinal against Bangladesh, where he remained unbeaten on 96. The star batter also boasts a strong record against Pakistan, especially in ICC tournaments.
Kohli has a chance to become the all-time leading run-scorer in Champions Trophy history. The record is currently held by former West Indies star Chris Gayle, who amassed 791 runs in 17 matches at an average of 52.73.
To surpass Gayle, Kohli needs 240 more runs. As India prepares to chase against Pakistan, he will be expected to take charge with the bat as a senior player in the squad.
