As the turmoil surrounding the sandpaper gate continues to unwind once again in Australian cricket, former India cricketer Wasim Jaffer has backed fast bowler Pat Cummins as the Aussie skipper. Jaffer used the infamous Sandpaper Gate scandal to praise the Australian pacer.

Cricket Australia has once again found itself in deep water after Cameron Bancroft recently revealed that Australian bowlers in the team might have slight knowledge about the ball-tampering plot. The tainted cricketer feels it was ‘self-explanatory’ that the bowlers knew about the ball being tampered by the Australian players during the Cape Town Test between Australia and South Africa.

Meanwhile, Wasim Jaffer’s cheeky response was in reference to the ball-tampering scandal that took place in 2018. As Jaffer remains active on Twitter and occasionally shares his two cents on cricket-related discussions, the former Indian batsman was asked whether pace ace Cummins is a future captaincy candidate or not for Australia.

“@WasimJaffer14 what do you think will Cummins become Aus captain?,” the Twitter user had shared his query.

Taking cognisance of the query, Jaffer backed Cummins to take over the captaincy reigns in the future but with a twist. Known for his unique sense of humour and subtle tweets, Wasim Jaffer opined that the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) pacer is one of the frontrunners to become the captain of the Australian national team.

Later, the highest run-scorer in Ranji Trophy – Jaffer deleted the tweet although his response soon became the talk of the town on social media.

“He’s one of the frontrunners. But write his name in sand and not yet on paper,” Jaffer wrote in reply before deleting the tweet.
