Axar Patel has been with the Delhi franchise since 2019 and is now gearing up for his first season as a full-time captain in the IPL. The 31-year-old took over the leadership role from Rishabh Pant, who parted ways with DC before the IPL 2025 auction.
“Axar Patel Feels Like a Big Brother” – Abhishek Porel on Playing Under His Captaincy in IPL 2025
Delhi Capitals (DC) wicketkeeper-batter Abhishek Porel expressed his support for Axar Patel as the ideal choice for the team’s captaincy. He mentioned that the senior all-rounder has been a great mentor to him and feels like a big brother.
Porel also shared his enthusiasm about playing under Axar’s leadership and expressed confidence in DC’s chances of securing their first-ever IPL title. Speaking at a media interaction, he said (as quoted by The Times of India):
“Axar bhai has been with Delhi Capitals for the last 3-4 (7) years, so he knows everything. He is a good choice. It’s good for us too. He is like a big brother and has helped me a lot, both on and off the field. He is funny off the field and focused on the field. I am really excited to play under him, and I am sure DC will win a trophy under his captaincy.”
Delhi Capitals will face Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in their season opener. The match is set to take place on Monday, March 24, at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam.
