Axar Patel dismissed Glenn Maxwell in the 2025 Champions Trophy semifinal between India and Australia at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Tuesday, March 4. The left-arm spinner bowled Maxwell for just 7 runs off 5 balls, immediately after being struck for a six in the same over, securing quick redemption.
The breakthrough came in the 38th over of Australia’s innings when Axar Patel delivered a length ball on middle stump. Glenn Maxwell, attempting a backfoot shot towards square leg, misjudged it completely, allowing the ball to crash into the stumps.
This dismissal followed Steve Smith’s wicket in the previous over, dealing Australia a double blow. You can watch the video here:

India strikes at regular intervals against Australia in 2025 Champions Trophy semifinal
Rohit Sharma and his team continued to pick up wickets at regular intervals, helping India dominate Australia in the 2025 Champions Trophy semifinal in Dubai. At the time of writing, Australia was 213/6 after 40 overs, with Alex Carey (44 off 40) at the crease.
Ben Dwarshuis has joined him in the middle. Mohammad Shami and Ravindra Jadeja have been India’s standout bowlers so far, claiming two wickets each. Steve Smith led Australia’s batting effort with a well-made 73 off 96 balls before being bowled by Shami.
India will be eager to avenge their 2023 ODI World Cup final defeat to Australia. The Rohit Sharma-led side is on a three-match winning streak, having beaten Bangladesh, Pakistan, and New Zealand, and will look to maintain their unbeaten run in the tournament.
Meanwhile, two-time Champions Trophy winners Australia are without key players, including regular captain Pat Cummins (injured), Josh Hazlewood (injured), and Mitchell Starc (unavailable). They started their campaign with a five-wicket win over England, but their matches against South Africa and Afghanistan were washed out.
