Delhi Capitals (DC) opener David Warner notched 66 runs off 38 deliveries before getting dismissed. He was at his finest, on Saturday (April 16), as he played a bashing knock of 66 runs in 38 deliveries; but could not make it count as Delhi went down against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by 16 runs. While fielding first, it was a team effort for DC. Except for Mustafizur Rahman’s expensive spell, all other Delhi bowlers went on grabbing a wicket.

Among them, Shardul Thakur seemed to be in rhythm again, as he took the wicket of RCB opener Anuj Rawat and conceded only 27 runs at the economy of 6.75 per over. Besides, Lalit Yadav’s reckless throw to run out Virat Kohli turned into the talk of the town. After a whirlwind inning of 55 (34) from Glenn Maxwell, Royal Challengers Bangalore, with aid of Dinesh Karthik once again, set a target of 190.

While batting, after the 50 runs stand between David Warner and Prithvi Shaw, RCB’s pacer Mohammed Siraj removed Shaw for 16 runs off 13 deliveries. But, Warner and his Aussie teammate Mitchell Marsh shaped a steady partnership of 44 runs in 41 balls. The momentum was shifted a little bit towards DC, as it was 12th over and they were only one wicket down with a set batter in.

But, on the third ball of the 12th over, leg-spinner Wanindu Hasaranga de Silva dismissed Warner, making it difficult to succeed, for DC. Warner tried a switch hit and couldn’t connect the ball; Hasaranga & co. appealed for LBW, but the on-field umpire gave it not out.

RCB went on to review the decision and the TV umpire declared Warner out as the ball was hitting the off-stump. It was indeed a poor & needless shot from David Warner. During this match between DC and RCB, Warner’s daughters Ivy Mae and Indi Rae appeared in the stands, relishing the match. As Warner got out, they seemed to be radically upset.

David Warner’s wife Candice Warner took to Twitter & posted a collage of Ivy & Indi’s reactions, after Warner’s dismissal. She wrote, “When daddy gets out the girls are heartbroken. @davidwarner31.”

Subsequently, Warner’s dismissal, Delhi’s middle and middle-lower order couldn’t sustain for long. After Marsh’s run-out, the DC skipper enlightened Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium, with some of his stylish shots, but his innings of 34 runs in 17 balls, was ended by Siraj. DC managed to score 173 runs for seven wickets, in 20 overs. As a result, DC, looking for their third victory of the season, lost the match by 16 runs.

Besides, after the match, DC skipper Rishabh Pant hailed Warner for his contribution. “I think Warner batted beautifully and gave us every chance to win the match. Can’t blame Marsh, it was his first match and looked a bit rusty, but we could have done better in the middle overs,” he confessed.
