[WATCH]- Fire Erupts at Gabba, Interrupts Brisbane Heat vs Hobart Hurricanes BBL Match

A fire erupted at the Gabba in Brisbane on Thursday, January 16, briefly halting the Big Bash League (BBL) match between Brisbane Heat and Hobart Hurricanes. The incident occurred in an entertainment area designated for a DJ, shortly after the fourth over of the Hurricanes’ innings.

Play was paused as Gabba staff quickly addressed the fire, using a fire extinguisher and a blanket to contain it. According to Fox Sports, several spectators in the sold-out stadium were evacuated from the affected area as a safety precaution.

The DJ area, located above one of the scoreboards, was filled with smoke, leading to a brief but notable disruption. The delay lasted approximately five minutes, as emergency procedures were implemented to ensure safety. Thankfully, there were no injuries, and play resumed once the fire was contained.

This incident adds to the Gabba’s history of unexpected stoppages. In March 2023, an AFL match between the Brisbane Lions and Melbourne Demons was interrupted by a power outage that left the stadium in darkness.

Additionally, a fire broke out in the stands during a Lions game in 2015. These events underscore the critical need for swift safety measures during large public events. You can watch the video here:
