Australian left-arm pacer Liam Haskett debuted in the Big Bash League (BBL) during the 31st match of the 2024-25 season between the Adelaide Strikers and Brisbane Heat. Haskett is representing the Adelaide Strikers in the BBL. In his debut match on Saturday (January 11, 2025), a remarkable incident occurred involving Haskett and his father.

Haskett was struck for a six by Nathan McSweeney, with the ball flying into the crowd. The six-hit ball was caught by a spectator in the crowd. That spectator turned out to be Haskett’s father, who looked visibly upset as his son conceded the six during his debut game.

The crowd, including his wife sitting next to him, cheered for his efforts. However, the middle-aged man wore a serious expression, clearly unaffected by the fact that his son was being hit all over the field. You can watch the video here:

Liam Haskett claimed two wickets in his Big Bash League debut

Left-arm pacer Liam Haskett experienced a mixed debut in the Big Bash League. While the Adelaide Strikers posted a massive total of 251/5 batting first, Haskett didn’t get a chance to bat. However, he made his mark with the ball during Brisbane Heat’s chase of the daunting target.

Haskett claimed his maiden BBL wicket by dismissing Michael Neser, who had scored a quickfire 18 off eight balls. He later removed wicketkeeper-batter Tom Alsop for just 10 runs, finishing his debut performance with two key scalps.

Although Haskett managed to take two wickets, he proved costly, finishing with figures of 2/43 from three overs and an economy rate of 14.3, highlighting the challenges of his debut. Despite this, the Strikers bowled out Brisbane Heat for just 195 runs, securing an emphatic 56-run victory.

As a result, Haskett enjoyed a memorable and winning start to his BBL career.
