Glenn Maxwell’s Melbourne Stars won a high-scoring BBL 2023-24 match against Adelaide Strikers on New Year’s Eve

Adelaide Strikers were told to bat first and scored a challenging 205/4 in 20 overs, thanks to impressive performances by Chris Lynn (83) and Matthew Short (56) at the top. Glenn Maxwell took two wickets, emerging as the top bowler for his team.

Melbourne Stars’ opener Daniel Lawrence laid a solid foundation for the chase with a quick half-century in 26 balls. Beau Webster (66) played a steady role, and Marcus Stoinis (55* off 19 balls) unleashed a powerful finish as the Stars comfortably won the match by 7 wickets. Stoinis received the Player of the Match award for his dynamic innings.

Looking back on the victory post-match, he mentioned:

“The boys set it up for me to finish it! It was about time to put a swing on it, I worked hard with my coach and got the job done, thankfully! The thought pattern changed after the partnership between Glenn Maxwell and Beau Webster.”

”We decided to go after it, otherwise, would have looked to take it deep. Always special to turn up on New Year’s Eve and score runs here.”
