[WATCH]- Graeme Swann Playfully Spins Around In The Hot Kolkata Weather During The Pitch Report

Former England cricketer Graeme Swann was taken aback by the intense heat, with temperatures reaching 43 degrees Celsius, during the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, on Sunday (April 21).

In the pitch report, Swann remarked:

“We need to talk about the heat. Well, it’s so hot out here today 43 degrees in the middle and this pitch is gonna suffer because of it because it’s very dry.”

He continued:

“It’s the second time this pitch has been used. The last KKR used, Phil Salt got runs. The most of wicket looks even, most of it is very very flat.”

Despite the scorching heat, RCB chooses to bowl first against KKR in the IPL 2024 encounter

RCB skipper Faf du Plessis won the toss and elected to field first against KKR despite the intense heat. RCB implemented three changes, bringing in Cameron Green, Mohammed Siraj, and Karn Sharma into the playing XI.

Speaking at the toss, Faf mentioned:

“We will chase. This is probably a chasing ground, always has been. I’m a fan of batting first when it’s really hot, but the temperature did drop after an hour or so yesterday, unlike in Mumbai or Chennai where it stays very hot.”

He added:

“We have three changes – Green and Siraj come back, so does Karn Sharma.”

RCB, the first eco-friendly cricket team in the world, is wearing green jerseys as part of their green initiative that began in 2011. This is the first time they are wearing these jerseys for an away game.

Meanwhile, the Shreyas Iyer-led KKR stuck with the same lineup despite their defeat to Rajasthan Royals in a close match in their previous outing at the same venue.

KKR currently holds the third position in the points table with four victories in six games and aims to get back to winning ways.

In contrast, the Bengaluru-based team has only secured one victory in seven matches thus far. They need to win their remaining matches to stay in contention for a playoff berth.
