England’s top-order batter Harry Brook played a remarkable sweep shot off Indian pacer Mohammed Siraj to register his first six during the fifth Test at The Oval. With the field spread out for the final recognised batter late on Day 2, Brook was forced to try something unconventional.
Following India’s strong performance in the second session, where they claimed six wickets, Brook carried the responsibility of extending England’s lead. With the lower order exposed and Chris Woakes unavailable due to injury, the No. 2-ranked batter increased the scoring rate after Gus Atkinson’s dismissal in the 48th over.
In the next over, after a dot ball to start, Mohammed Siraj bowled a fuller delivery in search of movement off the pitch. Brook quickly went down on one knee, positioned himself beside the ball’s line, and executed a well-timed sweep shot that cleared the boundary with ease.
The ball cleared the fielder positioned deep behind square as Brook lost his balance in the crease while generating power and lift for the shot. You can watch the video here:

Rain Halts Play With Harry Brook Unbeaten On 48 On Day 2 Of 5th Test
Harry Brook reached 47 with a superb six and added a single off the second-last ball of the over to move to 48, leaving Josh Tongue to face the final delivery. Just as Brook neared what would have been his third half-century of the series, rain returned moments before the start of the 49th over.
The umpires called for the covers as the players walked off, with the groundsmen covering both the pitch and the outfield. At the time of reporting, the rain had not eased, with England holding a narrow lead at 242 for 8 in response to India’s 224.
