[WATCH]- IND vs AFG: Rohit Sharma Reaches Major ODI Milestone With Back-to-Back Sixes

India opener Rohit Sharma reached the milestone of 14,000 List A runs during the second ODI against Afghanistan at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on Wednesday, June 17. The landmark came in style as the veteran batter struck two successive sixes off Mohammad Saleem Safi.

On the third delivery of the fourth over, Safi bowled a short-of-a-length ball outside off stump, which Rohit confidently pulled over mid-wicket for a maximum. The Afghan pacer followed with a similar delivery, but the Indian opener produced another authoritative pull shot, this time clearing deep backward square leg to register back-to-back sixes and bring up the achievement.

Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill Steady India After Early Setback

After being put in to bat, India suffered an early setback as Yashasvi Jaiswal was dismissed for just four runs off nine balls in the second over. Rohit Sharma responded aggressively, taking on Mohammad Saleem Safi in the fourth over with two towering sixes. Captain Shubman Gill then joined the attack, striking three boundaries off Allah Ghazanfar in the next over.

The pair maintained a brisk scoring rate and guided India to 80/1 at the end of the powerplay. At the time of writing, the hosts were comfortably placed at 96/1 after 13 overs, with Rohit unbeaten on 48 from 38 balls and Gill batting on 42 off 31 deliveries. A win in the ongoing contest would give India an unbeatable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.

The Men in Blue had won the opening ODI in Dharamsala by seven wickets, successfully chasing 195 in a rain-shortened 25-over match, with Gill starring through an unbeaten 84 off 66 balls.
