Bumrah And Kuldeep Strike As South Africa Cross 100-Run Mark
South Africa skipper Temba Bavuma won the toss and opted to bat, hoping for early control in favourable conditions. Openers Aiden Markram and Ryan Rickelton made a cautious start, adding 12 runs in the first five overs. Markram enjoyed an early life on four after KL Rahul put down a catch off Jasprit Bumrah in the seventh over, giving South Africa a much-needed stroke of luck.
The pair steadily built the innings, stitching an 82-run opening partnership before Jasprit Bumrah dismissed Markram for 38. The visitors reached tea on Day 1 at 82/1 after 26.5 overs, gaining confidence after a solid session. Soon after the break, Kuldeep Yadav struck in his very first over, removing Rickelton for 35, resulting in two wickets falling within four deliveries and shifting momentum instantly.
At the time of writing, South Africa were 104/2 after 36 overs, with Temba Bavuma (9) and Tristan Stubbs (9) in the middle. Notably, Bavuma’s team claimed a memorable 30-run win in the first Test at Eden Gardens in Kolkata, defending a target of 124. India will now aim for a stronger showing in Guwahati as they look to square the two-match series with renewed determination.
