Jasprit Bumrah Creates History with Incredible Performance in Australia

India’s star fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah produced his trademark celebrappeal after sending back South Africa’s Tony de Zorzi on Day 1 (Friday, November 14) of the first Test at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. The dismissal came on the third delivery of the 33rd over in South Africa’s opening innings.

Bumrah bowled a good-length delivery from around the wicket that nipped in off the seam and stayed slightly low. De Zorzi, caught on the crease and beaten on the inside edge, was trapped right in front of the stumps. Bumrah immediately launched into his celebrappeal as the umpire signaled out.

The batter opted for DRS, but the ball-tracking showed all three reds, confirming the original decision. You can watch the video here:

Tony de Zorzi was dismissed for 24 from 55 balls, having hit one boundary and one six. His departure pushed South Africa into serious trouble at 120/5 in 32.3 overs.

South Africa captain Temba Bavuma won the toss and chose to bat. The visitors began strongly as Aiden Markram and Ryan Rickelton put together a 57-run opening stand inside the first 10 overs. India got their first wicket when Jasprit Bumrah knocked over Rickelton for 23 in the 11th over, ending the partnership.

Jasprit Bumrah struck again soon after, sending back Markram for a well-made 31 off 48 balls. Bavuma’s stay was short-lived as he was dismissed for 3 off 11 deliveries by Kuldeep Yadav. Wiaan Mulder looked promising but eventually fell for 24, giving Kuldeep his second wicket of the innings.

Bumrah added another to his tally by trapping Tony de Zorzi for 24. At present, South Africa sit at 130/5 after 36 overs, with Tristan Stubbs (6) and Kyle Verreynne (5) holding the fort.
