[WATCH] Jasprit Bumrah Shatters Joe Root’s Stumps As India Seize Control On Day 2 Of 3rd Test

India fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah claimed the crucial wicket of Joe Root, dismissing him for 104 on Day 2 of the third Test at Lord’s on Friday, July 11. Bumrah delivered a full-length ball that lured Root into a drive, resulting in a thick inside edge that crashed into the middle stump.

The breakthrough came at a perfect time for India in the morning session, halting England’s momentum as they aimed for a sizeable first-innings total on a hot day in London. This marked the 11th occasion Bumrah has dismissed Root in Tests, equalling Pat Cummins for the most dismissals of the former England captain in the format.

Joe Root reached his century on the very first ball of Day 2, driving Jasprit Bumrah for a boundary. It was his 37th Test hundred, taking him past Rahul Dravid and Steve Smith on the list of batters with the most Test centuries.

Bumrah’s Early Strike On Day 2 Puts England On The Back Foot

England started Day 2 at 251/4 but suffered an early setback when Jasprit Bumrah bowled Ben Stokes for 44. He followed it up with the wickets of Joe Root and Chris Woakes in successive deliveries, putting the hosts firmly on the back foot.

Bumrah, who had already removed Harry Brook on Day 1, added three more key wickets on the second morning to swing the momentum back in India’s favour and raise hopes of restricting England to under 350. The 31-year-old returned to the playing XI after missing the second Test at Edgbaston.

He had earlier taken a five-wicket haul in the first innings of the series opener at Headingley, though he went wicketless in the second innings. At the time of reporting, England were 292/7 in 91 overs, with Jamie Smith and Brydon Carse at the crease.
