Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah brushed off the attention around his lack of celebration after taking a five-wicket haul on Day 2 of the Lord’s Test against England. Citing fatigue from an extended bowling spell, Bumrah humorously noted that he’s no longer in his early 20s to be jumping around after every milestone.
England were bowled out for 387 on July 11. Bumrah’s morning burst reduced them to 271/7, but fifties from Jamie Smith (51) and Brydon Carse (56) lifted the total. During the post-day press conference, Bumrah was asked if his muted reaction stemmed from disappointment at not finishing off England’s lower order swiftly.
Laughing off the suggestion, the senior pacer replied with a playful remark:
“Nahi sir, headline hai nahi [No sir, there is no headline].”

Clarifying the real reason behind his choice not to celebrate, he remarked:
“The reality is I was tired. Had a long time on the field, so you bowl and sometimes you get tired. And I am not 21-22, where I will jump around. I usually am not like that. I was happy that I contributed. But other than that, it was just that I was wanting to go back to my mark and bowl the next ball.”
Jasprit Bumrah Dismisses Slope Concerns, Says Skill Matters More
Whenever a Test match takes place at Lord’s, the ground’s famous slope almost always sparks conversation. When questioned about his thoughts on the slope, Jasprit Bumrah acknowledged that he gave it a lot of attention during his previous tour. However, he added that he has since moved past that and learned from the experience. The pacer elaborated:
“When I played here last time, I tried to consider the slope a lot more. I was thinking that there would be moment off the slope, but nothing of that sort happened. I learnt my lesson in the second innings.”
“Yes, there is a slope and the dimension of the ground is a little different. I will keep that aside and focus on my skills. I have come here with that experience – not to bring the slope too much into consideration,” he added.
