The Australian cricket team got off to a great start against England in the first ODI on Thursday, November 17 at the Adelaide Oval. Skipper Pat Cummins led the charge with the ball. Their pacers pulled off a good show to push England onto the back foot in the first innings. During the innings, all-rounder Marcus Stoinis’ stunning delivery to dismiss Sam Billings, left everyone impressed.
Sam Billings came out to bat at number five, after the dismissal of James Vince. England was reeling at 31/3 after around eight overs. Billings would have hoped to steady the ship for England, however, Stoinis’ ripper ended his stay at the crease. In the fourteenth over, Billings slammed Marcus Stoinis for a boundary on the first delivery.
On the next ball, Stoinis bowled a pitched-up delivery, with a hint of inward movement. Billings went for the drive, fancying another drive. However, the ball sneaked through the gap between the bat and the ball to hit the timber. The England batter was dismissed for 17 runs off 22 deliveries, with two boundaries. England was again left in shambles with 66/4 on the board.

The likes of Jason Roy, Philip Salt, James Vince, Sam Billings, Jos Buttler, and Liam Dawson are already back in the hut. Pat Cummins has picked up two wickets in eight overs, while Mitchell Starc, Marcus Stoinis, and Adam Zampa have picked up one each.
It’s been a process of over eight years: Sam Billings on England’s brilliant performance in white-ball cricket
The England cricket team has become a dominant force in white-ball cricket in the last few months. They earlier won the 50-over World Cup in 2019. England has now followed it up by winning the 2022 T20 World Cup recently in Australia. Sam Billings credited former skipper Eoin Morgan for the team’s turnaround since the 2015 World Cup. He expressed,
“Eoin Morgan single-handedly turned it around, and it’s been a process over eight years when you look at the depth in terms of white-ball cricket that England possesses. It’s pretty scary actually. So even with the injuries that happened in this World Cup, and the guys who missed out on the squad, the strength and depth is amazing to see.”
“It started with Morgs, but it’s kept on going and Jos has taken that on as probably the best white-ball batter in the world as skipper now, it’s the next step of his journey,” Sam Billings concluded.
