England thrashed Pakistan by five wickets at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on Sunday, November 13, to win the ICC T20 World Cup trophy. Jos Buttler and Co., however, won hearts with their behaviour towards fellow teammates Moeen Ali and Adil Rashid.

Batting first, Babar Azam and Co. managed to post 137/8 in 20 overs. England chased down Pakistan’s total comfortably with five wickets and an over to spare to win the T20 World Cup 2022. Ace all-rounder Ben Stokes starred with the bat for England, remaining unbeaten on 52.

Meanwhile, England came up with a heartwarming gesture after the win. The team have two Islamic followers, Adil Rashid and Moeen Ali and both were given time to step aside before the rest of the team started champagne celebrations.

Jos Buttler, respecting the faith of his teammates, decided to click a picture with the whole team at first, and then reminded them of the champagne celebrations that were about to take place. Rashid and Moeen left the place as the other team members opened the champagne bottles and celebrated.

Australia’s ODI and Test skipper Pat Cummins showed a similar gesture towards teammate Usman Khawaja after their Ashes victory. Cummins stopped others from opening the bottles and called Khawaja onto the stage to complete the victorious moments and photographs

“We are reaping the rewards of how we have played in the last few years” – England captain Jos Buttler

English skipper Jos Buttler highlighted that they are reaping rewards of the sticking to the same approach in the last few years in limited-overs cricket. Speaking at the post-match presentation ceremony, Buttler said:

“It is (the icing on the cake). To win the T20 World Cup now, immensely proud of everyone here. It has been a long journey and few changes but we are reaping the rewards of how we have played in the last few years.

“It’s been a fantastic tournament. We went to Pakistan before coming here, which was a valuable time for the group and this felt a long way after the Ireland match but the character we showed from thereon in must-win games is amazing.”
