Team India pacer Mohammad Shami was seen bowling leg-spin in the nets after missing out on selection for the 2025 Asia Cup. The squad, announced on Tuesday, August 19, did not feature Shami either in the 15-member lineup or among the standby players.
Despite the omission, Shami resumed training and started his preparations for the upcoming Duleep Trophy 2025, where he has been named in the East Zone squad. On his official Instagram handle, the veteran pacer shared a video from his practice session.
In the clip, Shami could be seen rolling his arm over for a few leg-spin deliveries to a batter before returning to his trademark fast bowling. The leg-spin effort appeared to be more of a light warm-up ahead of his regular pace training. You can watch the video here:

Shami has been dealing with recurring injuries and fitness issues, which have sidelined him from international cricket. The upcoming Duleep Trophy will be crucial for him as he looks to find his rhythm and form again, with the aim of making a comeback to the Indian squad.
Shami’s Last International Appearance Came In 2025 Champions Trophy
Mohammad Shami’s most recent outing in international cricket came during the 2025 Champions Trophy, held in early March, where India lifted the title after defeating New Zealand in the final. Shami participated in five matches, claiming nine wickets at an average of 25.88 and a strike rate of 27.3.
Since then, he has been absent from the Test side, missing the away series against England. His last appearance in the longest format was the 2023 World Test Championship final against Australia at The Oval. Notably, he was also not included in the 2024–25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy played in Australia.
After the Champions Trophy, Shami had an underwhelming IPL 2025 with SRH, taking just six wickets in nine matches. He has been left out of the upcoming Asia Cup, with his last T20I outing coming in the home series against England before the ICC event.
