Nitish Kumar Reddy had a disappointing outing on Day 1 of the second Test against England at Edgbaston, Birmingham, on Wednesday, July 2. The right-handed batter was dismissed for just one run off six balls by Chris Woakes, as India slipped to 211/5 in their first innings. Reddy’s wicket fell in the 62nd over when Woakes delivered a good length ball outside off.
Misjudging the delivery, Reddy opted to leave it, expecting no inward movement. However, the ball nipped back sharply and crashed into the off stump, ending Reddy’s brief stay at the crease. It marked a tough debut Test in English conditions for the young batter. You can watch the video here:

With star pacer Jasprit Bumrah rested for workload management, Nitish Kumar Reddy was drafted into the playing XI to strengthen India’s bowling attack for the second Test. The all-rounder came in as a replacement for Sai Sudharsan, as the visitors made three changes to their lineup for the Edgbaston clash.
England take quick wickets in third session on Day 1
Shoaib Bashir and Chris Woakes struck in quick succession during the third session on Day 1 of the second Test to dismiss Rishabh Pant (25 off 42) and Nitish Reddy (1) in the 61st and 62nd overs, respectively, helping England claw their way back into the contest.
Earlier, Yashasvi Jaiswal (87 off 107) and captain Shubman Gill steadied India’s innings with resilient half-centuries, while Karun Nair contributed a useful 31 off 50 deliveries. Chris Woakes emerged as England’s most effective bowler, claiming two key wickets.
England, led by Ben Stokes, hold a 1-0 lead in the five-match series after defeating India by five wickets in the opening Test at Leeds. The hosts chased down a target of 371, marking their second consecutive successful 350-plus run chase against India, following their 378-run pursuit at Edgbaston in 2022.
