Team India’s sloppy fielding effort cost them the match against South Africa on Sunday, October 30 at Perth Stadium in the 2022 T20 World Cup. They dropped catches, and also missed run-out opportunities during the match. Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin was in disbelief, as Virat Kohli dropped a sitter off his bowling to give Aiden Markram a lifeline.

In the twelfth over, Aiden Markram danced down the track and tried to hit the ball over deep mid-wicket. However, the ball went straight to Virat Kohli, who fumbled a couple of times, before the catch went down. Spinner Ravichandran Ashwin was in disbelief and frustrated with Virat Kohl’s poor effort.

Aiden Markram was on 35 runs when Virat Kohli dropped his catch. He went on to slam a fifty off 41 deliveries, including six boundaries and a six. His partnership with David Miller proved to be crucial for South Africa during their five-wicket win over India.

We were able to get that momentum: Temba Bavuma on their win against India

South African skipper Temba Bavuma expressed that the team was trying to up the tempo after the halfway mark in the innings. He acknowledged the form of his batting attack, but also added that he has not been amongst the runs. Speaking at the post-match presentation, Temba Bavuma said,

“The discussion was to try and up the intent. When you do that, that’s when opportunities come your way. Fortunately, things did go our way and we were able to get that momentum. Our batting line-up is in good form barring myself. It’s a batting unit that’s been together for a while. To come through in pressure moments will boost the guys’ confidence.

South Africa is leading with five points in Group 2 from three matches. They have won two matches, with one ending with No result due to rain. The Proteas will take on Pakistan, on Thursday in Sydney.
